This article provides information about how social cybersecurity in relation to national defense. It shows how Bots, the spread of misinformation, lack of physical proximity and other factors are used to manipulate public opinion. After reading, I was made aware of a few things. There has absolutely been an elimination of physical proximity to influence society. People across the world can be reached and influenced remotely, without having to leave the comfort of their own homes. I also believe that I had only considered social cybersecurity in relation to myself and the united states, but people are impacted all over the world. I never considered decentralization of information as well, I rarely watch the news anymore, I usually know what has been happening in the world through social media, which is not always reliable and is easily manipulated. The section about Russian information “blitzkrieg” was very informative and I was surprised that tactics from the soviet-era were still being used today. Understanding this strategy is helpful in the defense against cyberthreats.
