Scoring a 1/9, I do not relate to any of these to a large degree other than using social media as an escape. Even though I don’t solely go to social media for that purpose it was the only thing I could relate most to given the options available.
Regarding the items in the scale, they are based on common signs and symptoms associated with excessive social media use, such as compulsive checking, anxiety when not using social media, negative consequences, comparison with others, and excessive time spent on these platforms.
Different patterns in social media usage across the world can be attributed to various factors including cultural norms, access to technology, socioeconomic status, and individual differences in personality and psychological resilience. For instance, some cultures may place a higher value on face-to-face interactions and community engagement, leading to lower social media usage, while others may embrace technology and online socialization more readily. Additionally, disparities in internet access and infrastructure can contribute to differences in social media usage patterns between countries or regions.
