Illegal Cyber Activities

Andriy Slynchuk presents an interesting subject of common laws that are broken regularly, but are they are serious as they seem?

Amongst the list of 11 offenses, I present to you the top 5 (in no order), which to me, are the most egregious.

  • Bullying and “trolling”.
    • While some may deem it as harmless, it can certainly have a negative impact on one’s mental health, and may perhaps even end in tragedy. It has certainly evolved in today’s age with the evolution of social media, and not for the better.
  • Using Torrenting Services.
    • Arguably one of the most common uses of the internet dating back to the infancy of the online word, torrenting continues to create a sinkhole for online revenue by users who refuse to pay for digital items such as TV shows, movies, music, etc.
  • Sharing Passwords, Addresses, or Photos of Others.
    • While sharing passwords to accounts associated with popular streaming websites has become somewhat of a norm in today’s age, it is still something that should be looked down upon. Along the same line, leaking or sharing addresses and/or photos of others is another practice that can have very serious real-world consequences.
  • Faking Your Identity Online
    • Fraud is something that is rampant within the internet, and using others identity online with the aim to defraud them, is also quite illegal. Fraud can have devastating impacts on victims that can span several years.
  • Illegal Searches on the Internet
    • Since the beginning of the internet, if it can be thought of, it likely exists. Yet when it comes to the criminal side of things, these internet searches can become harmful and very illegal.
