Instruction: Review the articles linked with each individual motive in the presentation page or Slide #4.  Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each motive the way you rank it.

Response: Motives that make the most sense, in regards to cybercrime, to the least sense goes as follows in my opinion: #1 for money (some believe money is the root of evil, cybercrime is considered morally bad my most and many times people in need of money are willing to take the risk of commit crimes in the real world and this also applies in the cyber realm), #2 recognition (it is in human nature to compete, show out in front of others and the status one could gain by committing cybercrime is no different, being able to be recognized or make a name off of committing cybercrime), #3 political (similar to recognition in my opinion, but more specific and less applicable, political motives such as hacking a republican/democrat sponsored side because you do not agree with their views is an example) , #4 revenge (people like to give people a taste of their own medicine, this occurs in the cyber world as well with many people retaliating and taunting, research shows gang members conduct this type of online activity), #5 multiple reasons (towards the least sense because it is not specific enough, typically I believe it is more common for someone to commit cybercrime for one reason rather than multiple, although some of these can be connected as I discussed, recognition and political), #6 entertainment (this is the second to least that make sense because I believe people typically are entertained by other practices, I believe this is a thing of the past in the cyber realm as it was only prevalent, in my opinion, during the early days of some of the first viruses and malware that displayed a message or trolled a user), #7 boredom (out of the seven, boredom just seemed out of touch and didn’t fit well compared to the rest, to me, most people commit acts especially crime for some sort of reason other than “not having something to do”).
