Relationship to the Principles of Social Sciences ,Research Questions, Hypothesis
When it comes to cyberbullying it has many principles in social science, things like Impact of Emotional support and need for effective assistance to prevent bullying. The article “Cyberbullying: Its Social and Psychological Harms Among Schoolers” by Hyeyoung Lim and Hannarae Lee discusses criminal justice around the world and how the prevention and protection of bullying and victims due to the increase of peer violence. The authors performed a study to examine the impact of two emotional support groups on the different cyberbullying victims’ social and psychological harms. This article is important because very few studies have examined the support systems and resources that are effective for victims of cyberbullying.
Data & Analysis, Methods
In the article, the authors used data from the National Crime Victimization Survey-School Crime Supplement data from the years 2011 and 2013. The data from the survey shows the different relationship between bullying and cyberbullying victimization and other crime-related variables, such as things like guns, gangs, drugs, and alcohol at school. The author’s way of conducting data was by using cyberbullying-relating questions to see which student experienced cyberbullying. The questions were based on things like posting hurtful information about the victims and sharing private information, photos, or videos on the internet. The authors did a quantitative analysis of the independent variables (adult support and peer support) and the dependent variable (social harm).
Relationship To The Powerpoint
The authors found that both adults and peers support reduced social and even psychological harm which is inflicted by cyberbullying victimization. The findings recommend creating or modifying existing adult and peer support, but nothing specific related to using AI or cybersurveillance and to prevent cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a way of using technology such as social media, websites, or messaging platforms to harm or harass someone, also they are usually intending to cause emotional distress and this causes a power imbalance. This relates to the concept of conflict theory. Conflict theory looks at how society can be understood through power differences and inequalities.Cyberbullying reflects conflict theory because people use digital platforms to enforce their powers and reinforce the social inequalities.
Conclusion
This article explained cyberbullying and different types of ways people tend to cyberbully. Using the suggestions the article did not provide, we are able to see how cyberbullying creates a power imbalance and the social inequalities. Cybersecurity could be very helpful to preventing cyberbullying in many because cybersecurity is a system that is meant to protect you and also your information
