As I was growing up, I had a way with being good with electronics and how to fix things on the network. When it was time for me to choose a plan after I graduated high school, I decided to enter the cybersecurity field. The reason being is I felt that I was comfortable with working with technology as well as within the network. Despite me not knowing too much information in cybersecurity, I do not find it that difficult to work in the technology field. As the future is near and society is steadily progressing, this field will steadily increase as technology is becoming a huge factor in individual’s everyday lives. As a result, there is a positive financial pay to people within this career field, which will likely continue to grow over the next years, which is another reason why I decided to chose to be within this career field. Old Dominion offers many other career fields that help and play a certain role within the cybersecurity field, such as computer science, computer programming, and information technology. Computer science provides detailed information to understand how systems work within a computer, such as algorithms, programming, data structures, as well as the network. In the computer programming field, it complements cybersecurity by informing how to implement and develop secure software applications, such as encryption and other authentication mechanisms. When dealing with information technology and how it is related within the cybersecurity field, it uses the networks, software, hardware, as well as other types of systems that is used to process other information. The role within this field is also important due to maintaining secure networks and checking the system for any type of potential threats to the networks. In all, each of these majors plays a type of role with one another by avoiding cyber threats and the vulnerabilities that come along with them.
