There are four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals, which consist of privacy, security, consent and transparency, as well as data retention. When discussing the ethical issue of privacy, which is the most concerned protection out of the total 4, it reflects on how personal data is used and who has access to the data. Security stores information that carries the risk of unauthorized access and breaches within the system. This also involves implementing robust security to protect data, which consists of access controls and encryption. Consent and transparency are the storage of information that is consented within an individual for access. This allows them to know what information is being collected, who will have access to it and how it would be used. The last ethical issue, known as data retention, refers to how long information should be kept and when it should be deleted. This is also only allowed with the consent of individuals. A cybersecurity risk is a potential threat that can result in a breach or attack on a software or network system. In my opinion, I think that countries outside of the United States possibly encounter more risks of cyber attacks due to the limited defenses and resources that they have compared the resources and defenses that the United States have. Although the United Staes do experience many issues of potential cyber attacks and breaches, they have a better probability than any other country to defend the information that they have. Due to these other foreign countries not having the supply that the United States have, it makes them an easier target to attack that could result in financial loss or leaked information within the government of that specific country.
