Describe 5 businesses or nonprofits that have been created in my field.

The first is Duo security.  This one I personally use since it is one of the ways to gain access to our Old Dominion University website.  The company is used to help other companies with access management.  I have two options after my first login and password, I can receive an automated phone call or type in a six-digit code to further make sure I am how I am.  The next company is Trend Micro who is a company that specializes in helping and working with small businesses and companies, this would have been competition for our group project company.  Palo Alto Networks is known for their ability to secure whole networks from the bottom to the top.  Cisco for is known for its network security abilities and finally Zscaler  which is known for their cloud security.

What is my overall perspective on entrepreneurship experience?

  I did not have any idea what the entrepreneurship experience was going to be or what it was.  I did not have any idea what to expect from this class or the experience.  I will have to say if nothing else I gained a whole world more respect for people who do it.  I gained the respect for them that they can go out there and do it or even try.  This little taste of a fraction of what they must go through even on a good day is amazing.  The intestinal fortitude that these people have  is amazing.

How did the entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?

  I don’t know if I would say it prepared me at all to be a competitive candidate.  This may be a fact that the class was truncated for summer session.  The class did open me up to the idea of maybe working for a start up or with a new small business, but nothing to be more prepared to be a more competitive candidate.  I do not see how this class would prepare me for that.  I got more out of the class towards working towards a goal of starting a small business.

What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?

For a summer class version cut down on either the paper or pitch video, because it all seemed jammed into the end.  If not cut back make it a true group project whereas a group you work on one paper together and the pitch together and turn it in as a group, this would be closer to real world, because each member would not throw a pitch to an investor or customer.  I would also look at the course a little because the last question about being a better candidate is not something I feel the course is trying to do.  If it is part of what it is meant to do then maybe add a particular discussions or something that would seem to aim for that goal.  I learned a lot from the course it just does not seem to have that goal in mind.

What’s next for me?

  I am going to graduated in august if I get at least a “ C” in this class.  I will then take what I have learned from my classes and professors and look for a job in the cyber security field and future my future with going to work and get my security plus certificate.  This is a suggestion for the program itself Have a class that is designed to prepare students to get the certificate before we graduate,
