What is design thinking?
Design thinking is a type of problem solving that observes how unique technological solutions could accommodate human needs. It allows for many options to a problem that may have not been previously considered. It also functions in an interdisciplinary environment to bring forth more creative and better solutions.
How has design thinking influenced a product I use?
After learning all about design thinking, there are many products and services that were created using this process. One such example is a service that I, and several other people use today, and that service is Netflix. Originally, Netflix began as a DVD rental and sales service, where customers could rent or buy DVDs for Netflix to deliver to their homes. This service was created because they saw how much negative emotion was brought up by customers needing to drive to stores, such as Blockbuster, to rent and return DVDs. Later, as DVDs started to become obsolete, Netflix made their service even more convenient through their streaming services.
What are the connections between opportunities and planning?
Opportunities and planning work hand-in-hand with creating a successful business model. Before one would plan how they would go about creating this business, however, they must first consider the opportunities. This includes both assessing what you wish to achieve while also looking at what others want to see from this business. This is composed of a variety of steps which consider every factor that goes into solidifying an idea and determining whether or not it is a good idea in the first place. After potential opportunities are assessed, an entrepreneur must then plan how they will go about making this business a reality by assessing the factors that go into production, the wants and needs of the customers/clients, what activities needs to be undertaken to fulfill this idea, and more. In essence, opportunities and planning are two important steps in creating a successful business.
What opportunities have I missed?
Considering this question on a large scale, there are opportunities that come and go every day, whether it be missing out on a job listing or neglecting to keep up with the latest news about a particular event. Personally, I take advantage of every opportunity I am made aware of if it means helping me in my endeavors, but since I cannot feasibly partake in every opportunity that comes about, there are many that I inevitably miss due to such circumstances. In a business sense, I believe there are many ideas that I think of that would be beneficial to a large population, but lack of knowledge, funds, and experience is often the downfall of those ideas.
Can a successful venture be unethical?
While there are some entrepreneurs who find success by committing acts of immorality, unethical behavior often leads to the demise of a rising company. To start, success lies within trustworthiness. Customers and clients, more often than not, are much more inclined to invest in/work with an entrepreneur whose business has a strong moral code. This strengthens their reputation and keeps a clean slate on them throughout their endeavors. Therefore, it is not often that a business venture will remain successful by committing unethical acts
