Reflection Essay: First Group Meeting

After we were assigned to the groups we would be working with for the remainder of the semester, my teammates and I wasted no time getting to work. On October 9th we hosted our first meeting where I met my teammates—Kelly Morgan, Chenoa Glenn, and Brandon Giang. In this meeting, we discussed topic we should work on for our big project. Being Cybersecurity majors, we had many ideas regarding the most common issues surrounding that field, and we ended up leaning towards the issue pertaining to data privacy and the lack thereof. Kelly Morgan then pitched an idea she was rather familiar with—People Search Websites. She explained her first-hand experience in attempting to remove her data from these data brokers, which proved to be quite a struggle. Upon further discussion, we all agreed that we would work on an innovation that helps opt individuals out of these People Search Website in a convenient and effective manner. After deciding this topic for our project, we then briefly began discussing things such as what platforms we would run our services on, how we would retain our users, how we would gain the trust of customers, who our target audience might be, how we might be successful, what obstacles we might run into. Many of us were throwing ideas, brainstorming how we could potentially make this idea work, and as a result we also came up with our idea to host an email client for our customers, since that is something other data removal services do not provide. Overall, this first meeting was the kickstart to our innovation Eradicate, allowing us to get to know each other as entrepreneurial partners and begin working toward making this idea marketable.
