7. How has design thinking influenced a product I use?

Have you ever used a tube of super glue? The iconic little tin tube with the reversable cap used to puncture the tube seal. While effective for keeping the glue fresh for the customer it was a horrible user experience. It was a miracle if you were able to use that product and only put the glue on the desired area. I am embarrassed to say how many times I’ve bonded my fingers together. I presume based on the iterations of super glue I have purchased over the past ten years that the manufacturers have realized this or even experienced the same disappointment. Version 2.0 of the super glue dispenser still used that same tube, but it was encased in an easy to hold “holster” that allowed the user to hold onto the dispenser better and have more control. Unfortunately, it held the same miniscule amount of the product and was prone to having the cap permanently bond to the tip causing the more expensive product turn into a one-time use disposable tube, just like the original design. Version 3 of the super glue bottle has improved greatly upon the others failures, it hold 2-3 times as much glue and is able to be closed properly and reused multiple times thus justifying the higher cost. The original design is still available at many places, even as cheap as a three pack for only a couple dollars but for me it is worth it to spend $5 on the improved design. What is most interesting about this is that the glue in all cases is identical, it was the delivery method that needed iteration.
