A business is typically comprised of a CEO with different departments such as marketing, sales, finance and HR. The components of a business vary depending on the type of business.  Other components of a business include legal, policies and procedures, public relations, and technical support, to name a few. Depending on what kind of business or company it is, the types or components and their roles vary. For example, if you are a tech company that sells a service, like a VPN,  the legal component would  “fit” in the organization as they would have to ensure the legality of their service. With a VPN, the biggest concern would be privacy and consumer data, so the need for the legal component would be crucial in ensuring that the proper guidelines are met. Other components, such as technical support, would be crucial in ensuring that consumers are adequately getting the service that they have paid for, and providing technical support in the case that they are not. If someone is unable to connect to the VPN or if their internet connection keeps dropping when connected to the VPN, technical support would ensure that the customer is getting the support they need to get the service. IT would “fit” in almost every or organization. With how digital everything has become, regardless of the component, there is always a need for IT.  Whether it’s marketing, sales, or finance, those components are all utilizing some form of modern technology. The IT department is typically responsible for managing technology needs for an organization. If the sales component is having issues with their software that they use to manage their numbers, IT would be there to provide support. Same with finance and the other components. Other components, like supply chain management, would definitely need to ensure that their programs are running properly to keep track of their supplies as well as products. The Roles & Responsibilities of IT are pretty massive. IT is a pretty blanket term, but in the general sense of things would be vital in most organizations to ensure that their technological needs are up to date. Typically, they would ensure the network infrastructure is up and running and secure, and would also ensure the network is protected from cyber threats. The roles and responsibilities would vary depending on the organization’s size, structure, and industry, but typically would oversee the network, hardware, software, and cybersecurity components of the network. IT should be organized in a centralized structure. There would be different teams and departments that would oversee the organization’s technological infrastructure. Key roles such as System Administrators, Help Desk Support, IT Director, Software Developers, etc., would be crucial in maintaining a centralized IT structure.
