Four majors that relate to cyber security include:

  • Computer Science
  • E Business & E Commerce
  • Network Engineering (Information systems and technology)
  • Criminal Justice

Cyber security relates to Computer science in a way that it’s almost housed under a branch of it. Within computer science, you have things like information technology, networking, and overall computation and automation. You need cyber security for things like networks that engineers use to establish foundations for our servers that the whole world is connected to. If someone were to hack into the network or hijack its capabilities, then a multitude of issues could occur, which is why we have defense mechanisms from the cyber community put into place. E-business and e-commerce also work hand in hand with cyber security. These workplaces within firms are constantly sending information whether that be about clients, their personnel, or the business itself. These businesses need secure pathways to send their information to as well as receive them from others. Things like encrypting files or reports, firewalls to stop hacks and leaks of information are just a couple of strategies built into place from the cyber security perspective. Network engineering is all about creating and maintaining network capabilities that vary in size whether it’s stretching across the globe, into space, or your local town’s network area. Cyber security professionals work hand in hand to implement a defense system to maintain these networks and the servers built within them. A recent event that shows the importance of quality security over networks is when foreign hackers got a hold of the Colonial Pipeline which sent the residents affected by this pipeline into a panic, rushing to the nearest gas station for petrol. The hacking indirectly affected these people but also directly affected the company that operated the pipeline, forcing them to pay a hefty ransom for the acquisition of control of their pipeline. Cyber security is the governing force of the internet in relation to police as the force of criminal justice. Cyber professionals defend against cybercrime and unethical attacks on individuals whereas police defend against crime on the ground and maintain peace for individuals.
