In order to figure out if your computer is safe, you need to understand what security risks are possible to originate from your system. This can be easy as looking up what you need to identify these factors or knowing what you have on it and where it is located. Applications can be downloaded to scan the PC to identify what needs protection as a means to identify and prioritize what security measurements you need. A good thing to start with is utilizing VPNs, firewalls (software and hardware, and visiting only trusted websites. VPNs will mask your IP from trackers so that they don’t have an upper hand if they infiltrate your network. Firewalls are commonly installed on PCs at home and will secure you from unnecessary or dangerous network traffic. You can also test your firewalls by scanning the computer to make sure nothing is vulnerable under the firewall. You can purchase a firewall service from someone like McAfee but windows (or most OS’s) provides windrows defender which is reasonable for most users. One of the easiest things you can do is just simply not click on links or go to sketchy parts of the internet. This will ensure that no viruses or any personal information get leaked. Keeping your applications up to date or any programs/ critical drivers updated can ensure that they are working at their best capabilities and intended purposes. Clearing your system of files that you no longer need is a good idea as well. If a hacker managed to crack your security, if you don’t permanently delete items, they may be able to snoop around or look in your trash files to find sensitive information. Keeping your passwords in a secure location and not reusing them is another smart tactic to maintain safety. Apple, Google, and many other companies offer the option to save your passwords in their systems. This has shown to be at risk from hackers when cloud services have entire files of people’s information spread and when you use the same passwords for multiple accounts, this can lead to more than one account becoming exposed.
