Three ways computers have made the world safe as well as unsafe include improved communication, access to information, and automation. With improved communication, we have multiple methods at our disposal to relay information such as text, phone calls, emails, video chat, social media, etc. This makes the world safer because we can more accurately depict what is being sent through hearing their tone of voice, the pattern of their text, as well as pictures and videos to detect mannerisms and surroundings. We are able to receive all this information instantly instead of waiting for things like letters through the mail or meeting in person which could be a risk if meeting with individuals someone has a conflict with. This also makes the world more dangerous as these communication methods can be abused or intercepted to be used for unethical and malicious purposes. The possibility of misinterpreting what is being said and feeling too comfortable behind the screen can lead to heightened tension or negative consequences in relations between one another. Next is access to information which makes the world safer as with the vast availability of information, people can stay educated and self-informed meaning less reliance on information begin to spread from a shortlist of sources. On the contrary, this makes the world unsafe because with such a vast amount of information, some of it is bound to be misinformation and without proper skills in identifying it, this can lead many down a path of containing wrong details on matters and remaining ignorant to these topics. Lastly, with automation, many human errors made using machinery and computers can be fixed with AI and computers. If we look in the medical field, we see where programmed robots are able to perform procedures on patients that until then were rather difficult for medical professionals. This however can make the world unsafe as computers can be hacked or if programs are written incorrectly or machinery malfunction can lead to many problems.
