Engineers influence safety measures for cyber networks in several different ways. Engineers can perform assessments of networks to locate weaknesses or just routinely do check-ups and maintenance. A way they might find weaknesses is by doing penetration testing to see how easy it is for them to hack into the network that way it can think with the mentality of an unethical hacker to stop the problem before it ever occurs. They can devise plans or protocols for security measures for things like emergencies or aftermath relief efforts to make the damage affect operations as least as it possibly can. In doing so just as we see in the construction of buildings, you have engineers and architects work hand in hand to plan and build the most appropriate security measure for the network in terms of cost, effectiveness, and prioritization of information. Some engineers even manage the defense of the attacks while it’s happening instead of implementing a plan. Being able to ward off malicious attacks from malware or ransomware attacks as well as identifying phishing scams can provide great diversification of capabilities for the owner of the network. Training of office employees who do not work in an IT field may be necessary to help with troubleshooting and offer insight to solutions for various problems. They are more than likely versed in many program languages or scripting languages meaning they understand what feedback a network is giving them so that they can either fix it or provide input to other employees regarding the situation. Engineers are required to have an education whether it’s from a technical school, community college, or a four-year institute meaning they have been put to the test with a rigorous curriculum and are well educated and prepared for if an attack happens, plans need to be implemented, or overall cybersecurity duties are needed attending to, engineers provide a great deal of security for networks and knowledge base to keep networks functioning as they should.
