One major I believe relates to cybersecurity is the computer science degree. This is because this field relies heavily on technology. People who work in this field usually work in software development and in specialized fields such as information security analysis, network, and database administration which have a direct connection to cyber security. Companies rely on NIST’s framework to keep information secure. A second major offered at ODU that has a connection to cyber security is the Health Services Administration Bachelor of Science degree. Cybersecurity is important to this sector as they have critical personal information about patients and staff members. Having a smooth operating computer system is vital to the everyday functions of hospitals. The third major I see a connection with are international business majors. This is because people who major in this usually work for large financial firms or banks. These kinds of companies usually have vital financial information regarding themselves as well as the client or partners in a deal. Much of the confidential information is stored on computers or databases today so having staff educated in cybersecurity should be important to businesses. Even simple things like having a password strength seminar where people can learn the wrong ways of choosing a password. The last major that I see a connection with cybersecurity is the Network Engineering B.S.B.A. This is because people with this degree must have an education in cybersecurity to manage networks appropriately and to keep information safe. When working in network design it is important that the company has a background in cybersecurity as having knowledge about it will keep their network safer than it would be if the administrator was not concerned about cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is growing more important as the world relies more heavily on technology.
