SPAN 101

Exploring Culture

In the class We did research of other Spanish speaking countries and how they go to college and some of their practices such La Siesta. A la siesta is a time period when after lunch the person takes a twenty to thirty minute nap and than returns to work afterwards. After further research i learned that la siesta is slowly disappearing because of the more work that needs to be done and the timelines work needs to be completed. Learning practices and how other people live their lives in different countries really taught me how their culture uses their language. Doing excessive research was challenging because to find the best information usually has to be translated and not truly accurate.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging in a community is really vital to truly understand how others treat and do things. Just by trying to understand a different was of life shows the respect you would like to show.

Interpersonal Communication

In Spanish 101 we did various oral and interpersonal communication such as three interviews with our professor an interview with a classmate talking about our especizalition and our classes. the final project we did was one where we described our university life in great detail. I believe by practicing for these projects i increased my understanding of the Spanish language. I have a far way to go such as learning how to pronounce my vocabulary better but my over all knowledge of Spanish is greatly increasing.

Presentational Speaking

In short I got to speak about my university and talk in detail about what I like about it. I found this assignment a little difficult but repeating what I was going to say really helped me speak a little faster. In my video you can nee me looking over a lot because my daughter kept trying to get into my video but she game e the motivation to keep going and try harder. Next time i would take less classes so i can focus on studying my Spanish better.

Presentational Writing

Personal writing was the most difficult part of learning Spanish because I have a lot of difficulty on my spelling and grammar so I had to practice more and. I feel over time I got better at my spelling. With more practice I will excel in my writing.

Interpretive Listening

In interceptive listing for this course we were required to listen to multiple dialogs and comprehend what was being said and than we would have to fill out answers on how to include verbs to the sentence. The interpretive listing was a little difficult when we were listing to native speakers speak because they spoke a little fast but in the majority of the videos they also had a new Spanish speaker to slow it down. It really helped replying the video multiple times to better understand what was being said.

Interpretive Reading

During the semester we had many chances to read emails, social media accounts and personality descriptions in Spanish. These activities helped us understand how the words are layer out and also helped us understand the pronunciation of the words. I really enjoyed reading articles in Spanish because i believe seeing what is being said makes it easer to comprehend what is being told. After each assignment i understood more and more how letters and paragraphs are built in Spanish as well as the accent marks and pronunciation of the words.
