Final Reflection

Your First Semester

  • Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.

Throughout my first semester of freshman year of college, I have grown in my independence, confidence, Fatih, and my relationships with my friends and family.

  • What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.

My expectations for this year were to learn how to live on my own and take more responsibility for keeping my room clean and putting my laundry away, as well as making close friends. I meet these expectations because now I put my laundry away every time I do laundry as well as keep my things organized. I also meet amazing new friends and I am part of a closer friend group.

  • What is something you wish you had known 14 weeks ago?

I wish I knew that studying a little every day will help a lot for your exams as well as make you understand the material in my class.

Study Habits

  • How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?

I now study about three hours a day for most of the classes I need to study especially chemistry. In the beginning, though I just did the assignments and did not take the time to study.

  • How have your study habits changed?

My study habits have changed from trying to memorize material to understanding the material not just relying on my memory.

  • Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.

I read this book called “How to Teach Yourself” and it was very helpful in teaching me how to teach myself effectively.

  • What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?

I will be using the technique of intense study sessions where I only study for about two hours with no break and then test the knowledge I learned and keep doing it after taking a break every two hours.

Health Professions Learning Community

  • This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
    • On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between the content, and the subjects discussed. Discuss how these courses are tied together.

Parallel Plan

  1. This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea of possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
  • Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?

I would be interested in an elementary education major because I have always wanted to be a teacher but they just do not pay as much as dental hygiene and dental hygiene you get to work for more people. Another major that seemed interesting to me is a business major, with this I can work for my mom and her real estate business and then take over when she retires.

  • What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?

It was a huge benefit because you have a backup plan to fall back on and it gives you peace of mind and less stress if you need to or want to change your major.

  • How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?

The majors are very similar to serving other people getting to know them personally and connecting with them.
