1. Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe
- Computers have made the world safer by spreading knowledge. In the past if someone wanted to use a second hand instant pot or pressure cooker that does not have a user’s manual late at night when all their friends were sleeping what would they do? There was no internet to research so they might just try to set it up. They wouldn’t know the warnings that come with the manual and improper use could cause severe burns. The use of the internet spreads knowledge so people can perform tasks safer than they could without readily available information.
- The spread of news and warnings are faster. If there’s a tornado or escaped lion or convict roaming around people have instant coverage of the information and can take appropriate action to protect themselves.
- GPS on phones is a small thing but for some it could be major. I’ve gotten lost so many times in my life. If I didn’t have my phone’s GPS I would have angered off, gotten lost, and died most likely.
1. Technology has become a crutch. We use it for everything and if it should ever stop working we would be put in an unfavorable position. Like if I didn’t have technology I would have used a map when I travel. But instead of using a map I use my phone’s GPS.If my battery were to go out and it stopped working I relied on it too much and could be in trouble. Y2K is a perfect example of what could happen if things were to go out.
2. Information availability is a benefit but can also be a draw back. Information can be used for good and bad. The internet has no informational friction and information can be easily gathered and used for the purpose it wasn’t intended. For example, Google maps can be used by a burglar to case a house.
3. Technology can be hacked and taken control of and used for the purpose it wasn’t intended for. Machines can get a virus and malfunction and hurt someone. Or smart locks used to keep people out be hacked and used to keep people in.
