In this memorandum, I would like to discuss the reasoning behind why I recommend the new cybersecurity department to be reported directly to the Ceo.
Introduction
As a new cybersecurity program is introduced to our trading company. The placement of the cybersecurity department is still yet to be decided. After going through numerous options and reviewing the pros and cons of each option. I recommend that the new cybersecurity department report directly to the Ceo. This is in regard to having direct supervision, more rapid communication, and securing crucial resources/funds.
Direct Supervision
By having direct supervision, the CEO can ensure that the new cybersecurity department is running smoothly. The CEO is able to keep an eye on any activities/performance being performed. It also facilitates everything in a more manageable manner. If anything were to happen, For example, a problem were to emerge from out of nowhere, The CEO is nearby and immediately can take action. Direct supervision is needed for efficient management and more for a program that is new to the company.
Rapid Communication
Rapid communication is essential for a program to be successful. By communicating in a more rapid manner, the CEO can make quicker decisions and communicate any type of information to the team more effectively. It also minimizes any delay or miscommunication. If an incident were to occur, the cybersecurity team would be able to rapidly identify the source. Rapid communication can help in many situations and prevent a catastrophe from happening.
Securing Crucial Resources/Funds
Securing crucial resources/funds is an important asset for the cybersecurity team to achieve their objectives. The CEO is the most important person when it comes to managing funds and getting them the resources they need. It also ensures that the cybersecurity team is being supported by the company and prioritized. This is important because the department is able to meet the company needs productively. In addition, it’s a great way to communicate with the CEO of the importance of securing resources and the funds needed.
Potential Risk
While it seems like having the new cybersecurity department report directly to the CEO is a great idea. There are also potential risks that come with it. A major one is that the CEO will have their main focus only on the cybersecurity department. Which can lead to the downfall of the other departments in the company. It can also become overwhelming for the cybersecurity department if the CEO is demanding too much from them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, having the cybersecurity department report directly to the CEO comes both with great pros and cons. It ensures direct supervision, rapid communication, and securing crucial resources/funds. However, it can potentially become too overwhelming for the company. Overall, it comes with great benefits for the department of cybersecurity. Thank you for considering my recommendation!
