Mid Semester Reflection

Reflect on the following:
Study Habits
What classes are you doing well in, and why?
I am doing well in Algebra and English. I think I am getting the groove of studying and finishing assignments the day of or the day after really just chasing free time meaning the least amount of work possible off my plate.

What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?
I wouldn’t say I need assistance just a reality check because biology can become the most boring thing on earth. I just have to keep reminding myself that I need this for the future and need to put everything I got into it.

What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)?
Amount of time, for sure, because distractions have occurred more than I can think. Not location; I mean I have been to the library but haven’t made it my permanent spot. Regarding the campus resources, the math tutoring center is,for sure the reason I am doing so well in math. Study strategies is really reviewing material and teaching it back to myself.

Transition to College
What expectations did you have coming to college?
I had high expectations that college would be very time-consuming and a boatload of work.

Have those expectations come to fruition, or not?
College is time-consuming but not as much as I thought you just have to use your time wisely. And it is actually a very manageable workload week in and week out.

How?
Time-consuming due to the amount of time you have to put in on assignments in order to put in your best efforts.
The workload is very manageable because we do most of the work in class and there are never more than two assignments due throughout the week

In what way is your college experience different from what you expected?
I have a lot more time away from schoolwork than expected and the workload is a weight off my shoulders regarding my expectations.

What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester?
How much my teachers are looking out for making everything easy to understand. We’ll see how consistent that is throughout the years.

If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?
The toughest challenge is absolutely being away from my family because those are my rocks.

The easiest challenge was bouncing back from biology after I got a 70 and studied better and received a 100.

OR If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?

Major
Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

I did not that my major is the foundation for PT, RT and OT and learning that I now have mor options to learn about and figure out if PT is the right program for me.

Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.
Not at all I am fully committed to exercise science.
Thoughts: being able to help people, building my own brand, and eventually opening up my own PT and AT practice

Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?
Business so I may learn how to run a business for when I open up my own PT and AT practice

Connecting to Campus
Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.
When I was struggling in math I went to the tutoring center and instantly was helped and ultimately did way better.

Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?
My roommate has helped me a lot we have been best friends since elementary school. We both laugh and have fun and that takes my mind off of school.

Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved?
Yes I have the Emerging Monarchs club and decided to join because I want to gain more knowledge on becoming a leader and meeting more people with that same mindset
