“Formatting makes information more accessible to the reader by creating and labeling sections (headings), highlighting key words or ideas (bold, italics, or lists), and making a good impression (professional look and feel, appropriate font choice for the document type)… maintain a clear and consistent format throughout the document” (Pressbooks, Ch. 8).
How does the following example demonstrate proper formatting according to the text?

ODU’s current four-year plan for the English B.A. not only uses bolded headings to identify years (Freshman-Senior), but bolded and capitalized subheadings to identify terms (first and second). Subheadings are also placed in a gray textbox to give the user’s eyes a rest while sorting through the information presented, a tactic likely chosen specifically for readability purposes. The font size is reasonable and consistent throughout the document, with no unnecessary flourishes. Generally speaking, it’s incredibly simple, likely because the information is somewhat dense. However, colors and graphics don’t define a well-designed, readable document. By the standards outlined in the reading, this is a well-executed design.
