WordPress: Blog II

The mechanics exercises [in “Eats, Shoots, and Leaves“] are nearly 15 years old and they’re not great examples of document design. What aspects would you revise or redesign to better fit today’s audience and make a more user-friendly and effective instructional document?

Redesigning these documents may look like blocking certain information together for readability. The example above shows a template created by Venngage, a website dedicated to helping nondesigners create professional-looking, informative infographics. Replacing this document’s content with our “Pronouns” mechanics exercise, each block might be titled “Faulty Pronoun Reference,” “General Pronoun Reference,” and “Ambiguous Pronoun Reference.” This style of design would increase usability, considering such information would be used for reference while the user completes their practice exercises.
