As with anything else we know today it does not look the same as it did 5 years ago. As a society we are constantly looking for change or way to “improve” something. When we look at what this means in sport it is how we are able to view it as spectators. Of course you can still turn on the tv and scroll through cable to find the big game on however this is becoming less common in todays world. I am even guilty myself of falling into the more 2022 approach of consuming sport. I find myself catching the highlights on twitter, instagram, or YouTube rather than flipping through the channels and sitting to watch the game. I would say that this is where the majority of my consumption occurs nowadays it just is way more accessible and doesn’t include the things no-one likes about watching a game on tv such as commercials. Even though someone like myself counts heavily on social media to keep me in the know about the sports I enjoy watching I don’t see the overall consumption changing too much as we know it over the next 5 years. I do see there being many more outlets available to catch the action such as streaming platforms particular to the sport as the need for cable is slowly depressing in todays generation. However to counter that there are way too many people that enjoy the traditional way of viewing sports and way too much money made in the tv industry for this to change anytime soon. In a perfect world I hope to see a balance where both options are offered and it be cost effective so fans don’t have to miss out on any of the action.
