I think it is effective by seeing many different points of views when it comes to learning about the Hispanic cultures around the world and being asked to do further research to further develop my knowledge when it comes to other cultures.

Being able to search and look up information about Hispanic culture bettered my values and attitudes because I was able to get an insight to what goes on and how they live their life. I don’t believe that it challenged my worldview, nor any of my other views on other cultures, I am a non bias person when it comes to others cultures, and I am often intrigued on what other cultures do differently, as it truly makes everyone different and stand out rather than everyone being the same.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging in communities is important because it gives a sense of connection with everyone, so no one feels left out. Engagement also allows growth on ones attitude and knowledge by understanding the people around them. With the world getting more packed and more people are being born people are getting pushed closer and closer together so people are bound to have to engage with other communities, immediate to global communities.

In the recent semester engaged with a Hispanic lady through a TalkAbroad assignment that will be reviewed under Interpersonal Communication

Interpersonal Communication

The TalkAbroad Conversation between me and my partner went well in my opinion, with there being a language barrier between us I was able to learn more about them during the conversation and understand what they were talking about to a degree. Outside of the TalkAbroad there was a interview with my professor in Spanish, although I did not do as well it was still a learning opportunity for me.

Through each assignment was planned I had not had any spontaneous communication activities, aside from hearing a conversation in Spanish by other people there has not been any where I was personally involved.

Presentational Speaking

This semester did not have any presentational speaking activities that I can think of unlike in the previous semester where I had a few activities with presentational speaking. However the one activity that was the closest to a presentational speaking activity was talking about food.

The assignment was on making a recipe for a selected dish, it found it a challenge when making sure to conjugate the words correctly to make them commands. I believe I overcame this challenge by making sure that I had not messed anything up and checking the proper conjugations for each word.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

I had grown and learned a lot from this assignment as I used a helpful tactic of searching the internet in Spanish rather than English to get better responses to what I was looking for. I grew from this because without that I wouldn’t have been able to find the information as easy. I could have been better on the writing portion and working better with preparing however I believe that I had done well.

Interpretive Listening

As not something I had done related to class work, but listening to music made by Hispanic communities has helped me get a feel for how the language is, what it sounds like to help me pronounce words and sentences better in Spanish by giving me insight on how the Spanish language is supposed to sound rather than guessing. I felt like I have grown listening to the music some, although I do not fully understand what is being said, there are a few times where I can pick up on a few words that I can make sense of which I could not have before.

Interpretive Reading

This semester had a lot of reading compared to the previous semester, with lots of assignments involving heavy amounts of Spanish rather than English. Most assignments had questions completely in Spanish and none in English while others had some Spanish and some English meaning there was a lot of interpretive reading going on. For example the picture provided above was an example flyer involving heath, with lots of words it seems daunting at first but after skimming through to look for words that would be familiar to me then going back to make sense of the overall sentence and paragraph to understanding the entire flyer.

Exploring Culture Los patos típicos de Argentina es Asado, Locro, Empanadas, y Dulce de leche.
