Reflection Instructions
For this assignment, please reflect on the Fall 2024 semester, and your experience as a whole. For each question, please provide a few thoughtful, well constructed sentences.
Your First Semester
- Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.
I’ve realized that I must manage my time much more than in high school and at the beginning of the semester. I must be more responsible with getting my work in as many professors do not accept late work.
- What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.
I expected this semester to be a lot busier compared to highschool, however, it wasn’t as much as I expected as I took a lot of AP and Dual enrollment classes in highschool, which helped me get used to the workload. However, this semester has still felt busier, probably because of the size of the assignments.
- What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?
I wish I knew how much I’d need to study and manage my time to be able to study.
Study Habits
- How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?
I’d estimate I spend at least 3 more hours studying now then I did near the start of the semester. Especially as finals and my last tests and quizzes are approaching.
- How have your study habits changed?
I’d say my study habits have remained relatively the same, but the amount of studying has increased overall.
- Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.
I’ll probably use tutoring more next semester.
- What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?
I’ll probably utilize study groups and rooms in the library more often as the few times I have, they really helped.
Health Professions Learning Community
- This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
- On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which these courses are tied together.
In BIOL 121, Dr. Mills would connect how various cells and their structure, as well as energy production related to exercise science.
Parallel Plan
- This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
- Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?
Kinesiology and Rehabilitation and Recreational therapy
- What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?
Would allow me to have a backup plan in case I have a change of mind about what I’d like to do with my education.
- How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?
Kinesiology and Rehabilitation would benefit my intended major because it covers a lot of the same things, with more of a focus toward the therapy’s like PT, which I want to do. It would still give me a great understanding of the human body and how to help it heal.
