Write Up – The Human Factor in Cybersecurity

During this week’s reading, you’ve been exposed to different points of view regarding human contribution to cyber threats.  Now, put on your Chief Information Security Officer hat.  Realizing that you have a limited budget (the amount is unimportant), how would you balance the tradeoff of training and additional cybersecurity technology?  That is, how would you allocate your limited funds?  Explain your reasoning?

If I have a limited budget, I will balance the trade-off of training and other technology investments in training employees to be aware of the percentages over training. Furthermore, our brains can. I feel as though Cybersecurity measures take time to work, but human brains process faster—the impact of human behavior on society. It is crucial to invest in training people to be aware of cyber threats and prevention methods more to support than technology. There are a few reasons for training and other technology about a behavior’s impact on society.
Training is more effective in preventing cyber-attacks because it educates people on identifying and handling cyberattacks and protecting against threats. Training is the most critical investment we can make in IT sectors because training the employees on how to identify and defend against threats. Particularly in IT Security Training, it is helpful to have an awareness benchmark determining what state is considered secure. In this way, a company can be concretely evaluated based on the behavior its workforce exhibits in the face of targeted attacks. Employee training is more likely effective in preventing cyber-attacks than technology because the employees are educated on what to look for and how to handle it. We would balance the budget with training because training is also more effective than technology, which means we can deliver employees at a lower cost; another angle of training is more flexible than technology.
