This semester has been a pretty rocky one, as the transition from highschool to college is relatively challenging, But it is all just one step at a time. The classes I am doing well in, happen to be psychology as well as Chemistry Lab. I actually understand the material and I seem to find a great balance to help be successful in those classes. I found myself to be struggling in statistics. I knew this was going to happen though because I am not necessarily fond of math and numbers, but I have to keep striving to reach my goals in becoming a Dental Hygienist. I do like the fact that going to the library helps me to get work done. My expectations for college seem to be met. I knew my professors were not going to reach out to me. What I must say is that I like how everyone is willing to help everyone. We are all students here with one goal and it is extremely heartwarming to see all of us working together. I currently live in Whitehurst residence hall, and the most challenging obstacle is the lack of transportation that I have. I dislike the distance of where everything is located. It makes it hard to find motivation to go to class some days if I am completely being honest. But as stated before I must strive on to reach my goals. With attending classes I learned that being a Dental Hygiene major I get to work with an abundance of patients. For example I know if I get into the program I need to obtain a handicap patient to gain practice which was something I did not necessarily realize. Knowing this just makes me more excited to begin schooling. I am still excited as I was two years ago. If I don’t get into the program I think I am going to explore the Speech Pathology field. When we had guests come in to speak about the SLP program it kind of intrigued me. Not all things can be peaches and cream though. The most challenging part would have to be managing time for fun and school. And this isn’t a problem that ODU can solve, it is an internal problem. Whenever I come up with a good balance I believe I will become more at ease. I can write a whole book on this topic alone ,but I am happy that I am surrounded by an amazing roommate and astonishing friend group. They help me obtain self confidence and they encourage me to strive better. I honestly do not know if I still would be here without their support. I might not tell them this but I am so happy that I know these amazing folks. To wrap this reflection up I indeed joined a club. I am a proud member of Black Student Alliance. I am truly happy that Old Dominion offers this club. It really is like a big support group for African Americanss. So with everything I wrote College is a struggle but the people make the struggle less greater.
