CyberSecurity in the Biological Sciences Industry Discussion Board

From my week 5 readings especially, it is so important to know that your lab and personal information like our DNA must be max protected at all times. At first, I would conduct a risk assessment so I can determine the vulnerabilities among my lab as well as accounts holding personal information such as the iCloud. Knowing what is vulnerable will help me cover the gaps so they can’t be exploited as well as helping me figure out the steps I should take first in order to locking down my lab and personal information. After that, I know for sure I would implement firewalls as well as an antivirus software. Having firewalls as well as an antivirus software is pretty much having the great wall of china in front of your lab and accounts which will alert you if someone tries to hop over them. The antivirus software searches your devices or networks and will identify any potential threats against you and your personal information. These two strategies as well as me monitoring the network traffic for my lab continuously would leave my lab in the type of protection I want and everyone else should have. All I know, is that I am not letting any hacker, man or woman steal my DNA and put it on the black market.
