In this sample breach data, the website glasswaherparts.com was attacked and the system was intruded. Malware was placed on the providers servers leaking all the customers payment information and card data that was used on the site. This is a serious issue that needed to be taken care of, the breach letter was very smart of the company and needed to be done for their customers sake as well as the website. An economic theory rational choice relates to this letter because in this case the business made the choice in their best interest which was inform the customers and assess the situation properly with a cybersecurity firm and contacting federal law enforcement. The social science theory of planned behavior is shown in this sample breach letter. The website/company knew that if anyone of their customers got money stolen from their cards or identity sold due to their systems being hacked it would be over. They had to assess the situation; they also knew the planned behavior of a customer hearing the news elsewhere rather than the company would be way worse. The Laissez-fare economic theory relates directly to this letter as the government did not intervene in the company until they called for help to protect individuals’ inalienable rights. Those individuals are the customers who had their personal information leaked. The Elaboration Likelihood Model is a dual-process social science theory that relates to the theory. The reasoning behind the relation is that the website clearly made sure they incorporated all the information necessary to answer many of the questions soon to come from the customers. This breach letter was written in a way related to this theory in the way to influence the customers to change their attitude and not be upset because of the confidence shown in the letter that the issue will be taken care of. The company was trying to gain the trust back as well as lower the worrisome, panic, and potential damage to the company/website due to the incident.
