How I Consume Sports
I haven’t had cable services in over 10 years and watching sports broadcasts or even traditional tv features has been difficult. Most of my media consumption comes from social media whether it’s shared news stories, video clips, memes, or friend’s opinions. I have a friend who is a fan of the Cleveland Browns and during football season she turns her account into a Browns Fan Page. All of her posts are about the Browns; game stats, post-game analysis, and news updates.

Now that TikTok has risen in popularity, we are starting to see videos from the point of view of the athletes and people in the industry. My current favorite interaction has been between Allison Kuch, the NFL, and Cleveland Browns’ Isaac Rochell. We get to see more of their personality and learn more about their lives than what we see through traditional media.

Sports Media in the Future
As we see the NFL, trickle into our streaming services we will see it leave cable tv. We will also start to see other sports trickle into our streaming services. We will have the ability to go on Hulu watch ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ finish an episode in time to watch the Angels play the Dodgers. We will go to Amazon watch ‘The Rings of Power’ and Thursday Night Football. The for championships we will see a bidding war between the services to singularly own the streaming rights or every single service have, for example, the Super Bowl. With the second option we will then see each service offering player highlights, player documentaries, team documentaries, exclusives and the one with the best content before and after the game will get the viewers for the game broadcast. As far as media coverage of players, we will see more content like Isaac Rochell, Tennessee Titan’s Ola Adeniyi (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRueWaEN/), and Simone Biles. We will see more content from them, we will see what their opinions, personality, and hobbies. Fans will be able to connect with their favorite athletes and will expect it from all. We will also start to expect more access from them. Hopefully, there will be lenience from fans to able to protect those athletes who want more privacy. Those who don’t want to deal with negative comments and want separation from the public for their mental health. I predict the future of sports media content is more.
