Top Artifacts

Artifact # 1

I chose the artifact for module number 6 to be my top artifact. I chose this specific module because it helps me gain insight into myself as an individual. What I liked most about this activity was that we had to investigate certain traits within ourselves and try and describe how that trait would come out in a real like situation. Below is my list of traits and situations that I find myself in regularly.

Artifact # 2

The second artifact that I enjoyed the most, would be Module number 3. In this module we discussed relationships, and who exactly attracts who. I was not exactly shocked by new information in this module for the fact that I took a psychology of sex course last semester and we touched on this. However, for the archive, we had a small survey that revealed people who have some things in common ultimately work out. This seems a little like common sense in my eyes. The visual I chose to represent this module would be lyrics to Riot x Summer Walker. This song is basically her telling her partner she needs more in the love department. She emphasizes that their love is different, he is subtle and routine, while she needs the unexpected to keep her on her toes.

Artifact #3

Module 8 was fun for me to complete. For this module, we had to address different stereotypes, and how they could impact individuals within them. For the archive, we had to pair certain stereotypes with the ethic and racial group we assume it would go with them. We then reviewed the stereotypes and with whom they actually belong, and discussed if times have changed. I personally believe for the most part it has. Of course, there are individuals resistant to change, but I would like to believe a majority has shifted their thoughts and slowly, but surely have discarded those thought processes. For our visual, we had to create a word cloud of which we would belong to. I definitely took this time to view myself objectively and pulled what I believe I encompass.

Artifact # 4

One of the modules that stuck out to me would be module number 7. In this module, we learned about different types of attitudes and behaviors an individual can possess. For this archive, we were assigned to take two surveys one for attitude, the other was a behavioral survey. Afterward, we discussed how we potentially operationalize the feeling of dissonance along with how we could potentially feel a need to reduce the inconsistency and essentially restore a balance between attitudes and behavior. To me, this was interesting because I had to dig deep into what I feel about this topic. I chose to go with me quitting juuling/vaping. Initially, I did not know the negative effects of vaping, and when the new information came to me I was not too serious about stopping. But to change my behavior I quit because I decided to take care of myself, so the effects do not follow me into the future. So for my visual, I decided to go with a vape blowing out a skull, fo the fact that I killed that behavior and no longer partake in that activity anymore due to a new attitude I possess. What I learned in this module is that your attitudes reflect your behaviors significantly. If and the individual really wants to change their mind or actions about something they will.

Artifact # 5

The final module that I liked was module number 10. For this module, we discussed the different social forces/ norms present in our lives. However for this to work we had to identify the different behaviors we put out into a society that shape what we individually believe is acceptable and a social norm. For me, this was not too hard, for the fact that I get comments frequently on my appearance. I like to think of myself as versatile. I like to get a “girly girl” at times, full face of makeup, hair is done right, a nice outfit, paired with high heels and a purse. Other times, the times’ individuals would mostly critique would be when I go against the societal norm of being a put together girly girl, or just putting extra effort in. I like to dress in sneakers, baggy tee’s, with no makeup, and hair thrown in a bun or barely touched. Essentially a “tom-boy”. I enjoy being versatile because living up to standards, or the standards I feel like in place is tiring. What I’ve learned in this module is that you essentially set the standard for yourself, and your peers for the most part.
