Cyberbullying Involves Everyone

Introduction

Cyberbullying has become a major limitation in the growth of cybersecurity. Many people of all ages including children, teenagers, adults, and especially elderly are falling victim to cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is defined as someone who is misusing their authority of an electronic device to bully or threaten another person. Cyberbullying is so dangerous it has made a handful of individuals do hurtful things to themselves due to the effects of other people’s words. Some have often gone farther then just hurt themselves. There have been ways and techniques used to help victims and put a stop to cyberbullying.

Summary

A school named Qatar University residing in Doha, Qatar, conducted a survey or a test to see the demographic of people from different courses, colleges, and levels that use the internet and have experienced any form of cyberbullying. Of the 1,000 selected students, 454 (45.4%) were males, and 546 (54.6%) were females. The sample combined 496 (49.6%) students from science colleges and 504 (50.4%) were from other colleges. The test used a variety of charts and scales including a general bullying scale and a cyberbullying perpetration scale. The data was collected electronically by a questionnaire sent to the students by email. The study shows that every last student experienced a different form of bullying of some kind. Apparently, 26% experienced bullying in general, 73% knew cyberbullied victims, 64% knew the perpetrators, and 9% were aware of the victims on campus.

Conclusion

Cyberbullying is growing and spreading throughout every part of the internet. Within the conclusion of the study, Qatar University recommends awareness campaigns to help enlighten the young people about the danger of cyberbullying and put in place cyber laws to prevent future attacks. This topic relates to the challenges and concerns by explaining the different types of demographics that are being negatively affected by cyberbullying and the amount of people that are displaying the act towards one another. The overall contributions that this study has shown us is the percentile of students at the University that are associated with bullying and their different kinds. This researched utilized qualitative research methodology. The reason for this methodology was because the researcher was a more in-depth analysis of the objectives.
