Social media plays a very vital role in the way that organizations in sports connect with the outside world. Social media is a direct way to interact with fans and haters of a team, throughout various apps, you can see that people interact with a sports organization through its social media. Whether its reactions to a score, or just people commenting their thoughts about the team, social media is the link to direct interaction between the organization and the fans. To sports organizations, the public’s view and thoughts of the team and what goes on in or around the team is the most important thing to the higher ups in the organization. Social media allows fans to give their direct opinion of the organization in words. The growing popularity of social media has made it easy for a random fan to just “@” their favorite team’s page and be able to express their feelings about the team’s direction, the memes the team posts, or just information about the team in general. Also, social media has become a major news outlet for the world so a lot of times people will go check their social media platforms before they go check their “normal news outlets” (TV or newspapers). Sports organizations provide updates on rosters, inside looks of things within the locker room, and other fun information about the team and the social media response on these types of things really can shape future posts from the team’s social pages. As we know, sports organizations want their fans to feel very involved in their team’s campaigns. Organizations will often take to social media to get the fans to vote on different things regarding the team like jersey combinations, music around the stadium and even as important as the logos or mascot of the team. This is a very important key to success because marketing these sorts of things become easier because they can get the gist of what most fans want so in return it will not be hard to sell in the future. You see organizations start campaigns almost exclusively on social media outlets because that is the easiest and most affordable way to gain an understanding of how the public is feeling toward what’s being posted.
