Reflection
I feel this semester in Spanish 102 I was able to learn more vocabulary words and formualate better sentences. Some of the challenges I have with learning Spanish is that my anxiety sometimes gets in the way as well as a slight loss of hearing and eyesight causes me to miss things at time. The other big problem is I have to work a full time job in order to take care of myself so I sometimes don’t get the sleep I want in order to recall things better. My best work so far is the studies about food and family.
Some of the obstacles that I have been having is related to study time. So what I have been doing is putting the material on my phone and creating study questions and sheets and printing them off and studying them when I have a break.
One of the things that might of help me too is actually ordering food or dinning at a Spanish restaurant and watching their intereactions with themselves and other people to understand the culture better. It helps me to view Spanish culture as more being more resourceful and kind. It does change some misconceptions about Spanish culture by highlighting their intelligence. An example could be when the person taking your order makes a suggestion or helps you understand what you are ordering and what you might taste or experience while eating or simply if something is spicy or hot or an inquired taste.
Engaging In My Community
Engaging in my community can be very diverse. We have all sorts of cultures and places to eat. In my community you will get to meet people asian backgrounds, spanish, Inidian and African American.

Interpersonal Communication
My talk abroad experience was interesting because I had never met Cesar before. He was very fluent in English and Spanish. He did his best to try to make me feel comfortable. He was also very courteous to someone who may have anxiety attacks. I also had an oral assignment with Professor Mitchell and she was also courteous and very helpful and helped me with my nervousness.
To describe my talk abroad it was very insiteful and I felt like I could somewhat carry a conversation. But, I at times couldn’t remeber how to conjugate which kind of threw me off when having to ask or answer the next question. In my oral exam I felt a little more relaxed because I’ve seen and heard the professor before which made me a tad more comfortable. So next time I will need to study more questions and answers and simply just try to calm down. I felt like I did better with basic sports and entertainment questions
Presentational Communication
One of the activities I completed this semester was Talk Abroad where I had to try carry a conversation with someone who spoke Spanish that I didn’t know. It didn’t go like I wanted it to. I probbaly froze a couple of time. But the person I spoke to was very patient.

Next time I do a Talk Abroad I would like to have more to say. I’m gonna look up more phrases so I can intereact better. I did believe I did good at trying to keep the conversation going and having questions to ask. I was able to overcome some anxiety so that I can speak.
Presentational Writing
Some of the presentational communication were exercises like discussion questions with classmates or answering questions about situations in different countries. Some of the activities we would have to answer would be a particular person ate or maybe their rights. Some of the discussions I like because it was participating with different classmates where the professor would set up a question and we would have to answer our classmates with our opinions.

Mi familia también es grande. Tengo un hermano y una hermana y también una madre y padre. Vivimos separados. Mis primos y yo somos cercanos como hermanos y hermanas. Tomamos vacaciones en familia.
The article above is one of my discussion board answers. I have grown since then by having more to say in the discussion boards. Also, learning more vocabualary and cultural references helps making the writing more affluent.
Interpretive Listening
With learning how to interpret Spanish we were often given different audios in which the person would speak and we would have to interpret the answer from different assignments. Honestly I would have to play them multiple times in order to understand what is going on because the person spoke a little fast or it was new voccabulary. It got a little easier as the semester went on.
Interpretive Reading
We had many communication activities we had to complete for class. We read some how to activities or ones that gave us different instruction. Sometimes being that I was new to the section I had to break things down slowly so I could understand.
Example:
This was in our Lingro Learning book in section 8. I had to break it down to interpret it. Some of the vocabulary was also new. We also had to look at the research on the country’s listed in order to complete the assignment which is going to take a little time to do. Through trial and error I was able to complete the assignment and gain a better understanding of culture and new vocabulary.
