Writing Reflection One –

When I first enrolled in University 150, I thought it would be a waste of my time considering, I did not think my writing was poor quality. Throughout my first six weeks in the course I’ve come to realize that my writing may not be awful, but it could always use improvement. Not everything is perfect.

I have made progress and growth in several areas during this short period of time, including I’ve grown because of the journal practice I complete inside and outside of the course. The writing practice encourages me to write more often then I would normally on my own time, and it also helps with correcting mistakes that I had a habit of making. Also while in the course I have found that writing journals makes writing more easy, I have found comfort in it.

Secondly, I have seen growth come from the first two essays we have written, only one which we have received back. I have come to know the WSPT rubric and how I am graded. I have determined and analyzed several mistakes I need to improve on, I have started disposing of those errors. I have also listened to my classmates’ feedback on my work during peer reviews.

Thirdly, University 150 has made me have improvement in my grammar. We have reviewed sentence structure multiple times in class, which helps with my skills. I have identified comma splices as something I need to work on to become a better writer. I also know I need to eliminate run-on sentences, as they make my papers sound less educated.

Finally, by reading the first five chapters in the course textbook, I have learned some new note-taking strategies. I also reviewed the importance of a strong transition to college and how it could effect my grades.

In conclusion, because I have improved in sentence structure, journaling, and study skills, I have gained an appreciation for the University 150 course. I hope this course will be helpful in preparing me for English 110 and passing the WSPT.
