The main experience that helped me develop leadership skills was within the Monarchs Makers Organization. This organization helped me enhance my leadership skill since I was the founding vice president of the club, spearheaded projects for members to participate in, and was elevated to the leadership position of president. Due to the active participation I had with the club I was able to sharpen my leadership skills, and my artifacts of this section show this.

Founder and elected vice-president of MMO

Whilst attending ODU I was a founding vice-president for the Monarchs Makers Organization club (MMO for short). As a founding leader of the club I as well as others, wrote and signed off on a declaration as to what MMO would stand for and its purpose on campus. As the acting vice president I had to connect with sources outside of the club for collaborations. One example of this is I established a strong connection between MMO and the Game Design club. This was done so then we can have collaborative events between the clubs, and for the events I helped plan what day it would happen and what would be happening in the event. For some of these events I was an assistant manager in order to help guide people on what they can or should be doing.

Spearheaded 3D Prosthetic Hand Event

Another case of leadership is when I lead the club to help make a prosthetic hand. One major event that MMO held that lasted multiple months was one where the goal was to make a prosthetic hand for a child who had lost some fingers at birth. The plan was that multiple groups were to make a prothesis so then she could have choices to choose from. I lead one group in order to make a more hand like prosthetic while others went for a more stylized approach. This project got so popular that the local news did a story on it. In the article you can see MMO members measuring and 3D scanning the child’s hand.

Elected President of MMO, and the Toy Making

I had been elected President of MMO in the following semester and I had more duties than before. I would not only lead events, but I would also make the slideshows that are shown in the beginning of the event, and open the events with a speech. every event that was held I was present and chaperoned it to ensure that no one could get hurt by the machinery, and to de-escalate an argument if one were to arise. I also decided that the major event for this semester should be for making toys to the children’s hospital. The club would again be separated into multiple groups, but this time the groups would be for the different types of toys. Some groups would work on wooden toys, and the groups that I looked over made 3D printed toys. When making the toys we ensured that the toys were not dangerous for the children, and that the materials used were safe for children to touch. When all of the toys were made we donated all of them to the Children’s Hospital of the kings daughter. Most people made fidget toys since we were told that many kids were really into infinity cubes at the time.

3D Modeling

As a student who is studying in the Video Game development major within ODU One vital course that I have taken was Visual design fundamentals. This course helped me develop professional level 3D modeling skills. Some of the skills that I learned from this is object modeling, texturing, and stylization. The artifacts within this section properly show all of the skills that I have developed.

Simple Bedroom

While Studying at ODU I took a class in Visual design fundamentals (Game 214). This class taught me multiple skills such as drawing on a tablet and pixel art, but the most important skill it showed me was 3D Modeling and design. The first assignment I had for this class was to make a simple bed room. I was able to understand the Blender software in this assignment since it had simple shapes inside of it. The assignment also taught me how to place textures on an object and make them line up properly. Another ability I gained from this assignment is learning how to properly place lights in a 3D Model in order to make it look like an Ikea showcase.

Stylized Food

This object shows that I know how to make a smaller object Stylized. I needed to make this plate of food smaller in polygon count since there were going to be lots of them on a table. What I did was make the plate of food look Stylized so then when players loaded them up in game the game could still run smoothly, and still look good. This object also reuses textures such as a ground texture for the soup and a leather texture for the cooked part of the meat since it helps lessen the amount the player would have to download.

Tavern + Courtyard Scene

This was the final assignment for the Visual design fundamentals course. This taught me how to make polygon counts low on a massive scale. The level design layout and all of the other smaller models I made to be lower in polygon count since I needed to make sure that players could load the game and not lag. After I made the 3D scene and put all of the objects inside of it I also made it explorable so then a person could actually explore the scene. This was made in Unity and all of the objects shown do have collision.

Programming

I have been studying programming since I was in high school, but as a student of the video game development program at ODU I was able to not only use some of the same programming skills, but I was able to hone and sharpen my skills via programming classes, but since this is an interdisciplinary major I was able to also train my programming skills by making video games within different classes such as my Game Balancing class and Video Game Storytelling class. This was an assignment I had for the Game Balancing (Game 333) course. In this I had to program a whole game in Unity by my self. The game was made simplistically in an artistic sense because I wanted to focus on balancing the game and the programming of it. In making the game it was also my first time using Unity and it was a small roadblock, but I quickly overcame it. The game also needed play testers so I called up some friends to test it and I had to give the player more hp and mana as they progressed the levels.

The Most Deadlock Prototype

Of the classes I took in ODU Video Game Storytelling (Game 395) also showed how I should be making games. For this assignment I made a narrative focused based game in renpy. This showed me that I can make games in multiple engines instead of just focusing on one engine. The game revolved around a fan story I made between two characters from the steam game deadlock. The language I used for this game was python and I was able to make a full game out of it with multiple endings.

Doctor/Patient portal Assignment

In my at ODU I took a Programming with Java course (CS251).
