Cybersecurity firsted grabbed my interest when I was a freshman in high school. I went to a career fair with my friend at Old Dominion University. While there we sat through a lesson about cybersecurity and I found it very interesting. I had no idea all that went into the field when I heard about it. I just thought of hackers. But the lesson that they went over showed that it was so much more. So I went back to my high school and talked to my teacher who taught most of the technology based classes in our school. He informed me that our school offered a cybersecurity class. So I signed up for it and took it my sophomore year and really enjoyed it. The next year which was my junior year we were on lock down but I still took cybersecurity fundamentals which was the next step. But due to the fact that it was completely online I didn’t enjoy the class. So going into my senior year I didn’t know what career I wanted to explore. I was stuck between exercise science and cybersecurity. So I decided to go to Old Dominion University and just take my general education classes until I decided what major I wanted. I realized about half way through the semester that I wanted to declare my major in cybersecurity. Now I am hoping to get a major in cybersecurity and possibly a minor in criminology. Like I said before it grabbed my attention right away since I didn’t know anything about it. It is such a large field but not that much is known about it by the general public. After I took the classes in high school I learned that it’s not just sitting behind a screen, there is actually an area of study which involves meeting people and get face to face information.
