Cyber technology has given offenders more power and a larger platform to use to attack their victims without ever having to be near them. Now that the internet and technology have become so advanced, it has become a large part of most people’s lives. Almost everyone you see or talk to has at least a cellphone and some sort of computer or laptop. Those devices give offenders another way to attack victims. For example, unlike before when someone was robbed most of the time it was either face to face or someone would break and enter. Now with so much information being readily available on the internet someone could be robbed by an individual that is halfway across the world. It could also take the victims weeks to realize if they have been robbed. Another way that offenders can attack victims with cyber technology is through stalking and harassment. An offender can do these acts with out even needing to engage in an act such as hacking. Things like social media give attackers power without any real effort. Just by people simply being active on social media it gives the attacker information such as possibly location, age, and place of employment/residence. This makes it so that if an individual wants to stalk someone, they can continue to online with no repercussions but then they can find the information to make the stalking phyiscal. On top of the stalking through social media harassment plays another large role. Most social medias have a few different ways that one can get into contact with another person. This was created with idea that people could text through the app. But this makes it so anybody can message anyone. That leaves open a door for who which harassment or bullying can beginning. There has sadly been numerous cases where this online harassment or bullying has caused individual to take there own life. In summary cyber technology has given offenders new platforms to find and hurt victims.
