There has become a large overlap in recent years between criminal justice and cybercrime. Cybercrime is a criminal activity that has any involvement with the internet or a device such as a computer. Criminal justice is the overall system that is used to convict a criminal of a crime so things such as laws and courts would be in this system. Due to the increase in the use of the internet globally for an array of things there has been an increase in cybercrime because there are now valuable things to be taken. Since that is technically considered theft then the criminal justice system gets involved to bring justice to those who have been affected. So that is where the overlap starts to begin. Since it is a crime criminal justice has to be involved and treat the whole situation like a normal case. So there are still things such as investigations done they are just done a little differently since the evidence is different in most cases. If it’s a case that is done completely online then the forensics are digital rather than physical. So then like in a normal case, the prosecution would be the next step in line. The trial would then be the same as any other case there would be a trial with charges and a verdict given at the end. But even with overlaps of the trials and processes being the same, there is a need for these overlaps to take place so that the internet can be overall a safer and more secure place for people to be. If these overlaps were not there then there would be no online laws which in this age would put almost everyone at risk.
