CRISPER gene editing is a genetic engineering technique in molecular biology by which the genomes of living organisms and can be modified. “It can be used in creation of new medicines, agricultural products, and genetically modified organisms. It has the possibilities in the treatment of inherited genetic diseases as well as diseases arising from somatic mutations such as cancer.” However, its use in human germ-line genetic modification is highly controversial.
The possible ethical considerations are that this monstrous, unethical, and the possibility of misuse. My stance on this is that there is possibility that our DNA could be cut from the gene pool without any repercussions and also how would we know. Everyone is different for a reason and by making everyone immune from diseases sounds amazing, but why can’t there just be a cure for all diseases instead of messing around with peoples genes to create the code for life. This also comes with the ability of cyber criminals being able to hack into the gene editing technology. It is crazy because since there is a way to modify genes, you have to think that there is a way to modify viruses as well. It is frightening to think about because bioterrorists can hold nations at ransom with designer pests that can lay waste to farmlands.
