Reflective Letter
In this course I can honestly say that I was weighed, measured and in the end I came out on top. MET 330 with Dr. Ayala was by far the most demanding class I have taken in my college career. It was a struggle but I made it though and I am grateful. This class has not only taught me fluid mechanics but time management, technical writing and leadership skills as well. After completing this course I can confidently say that when it comes to fluid mechanics there is nothing that I can’t handle. Throughout the semester my skills and capabilities were tested and enhanced thanks to numerous challenging homework assignments, tests and projects. Out of everything that I have done this semester my most successful area was understanding the flow of fluids and Bernoulli’s equation. My most improved skill was my use of excel. With excel I learned to do iterations and perfect my calculations on a much larger scale. I struggled using Bernoulli’s equation in the beginning but after numerous assignments I was able to gain a good grasp of the subject and become quite proficient with it. The most interesting part about this class was being able to apply it to my career. In my line of work I deal with a lot of hydraulic systems and fluid power systems so this class has helped me form a better understanding of what I am doing. Depending on where my career goes in the future the things I have learned in fluids can prove to be very helpful in my advancement. Whether I’m working for company designing pumps and pipe systems, doing technical write ups for customer presentation, or leading a group of coworkers in a project. If I were to start this class again I would give myself a few important tips to ensure a successful semester. My tips would be to manage my time wisely, attend every class and ask questions, pick good hardworking group members for the project and to do all of the extra credit I can.
