- Identify other components of a business:
- In a functioning business, there are many moving components that work together to make sure the business grows and thrives. In the presentation, there were a lot of them presented, but there are still more to consider. For example, there are components such as Risk Management, Quality Control, Research and Development, and Training and Development.
- Where do they “fit” in the organization
- For how they “fit” in the organization, there are many uses for these different components. Risk Management would deal with helping to identify and control any potential harm or “risk” to the company. Quality Control would help to ensure and maintain that the quality of what the company is producing meets up to the established parameters and standards. Research and Development would help to brainstorm and develop new products or services for the company. Training and Development helps to make sure new employees are up to speed in their positions and provides employee training on a quarterly basis. All these different components and their uses in the company help to make the company stronger and better as a result.
- Where does IT “fit” in an organization?
- In an organization, Information Technology (IT) has a very fundamental role. By the presentation, they would usually report to the CEO through the CIO. They help to support the organization and all the different sectors of the business. They are important in making sure the company is secure and is able to thrive without any potential security risks that would come from breaches or events.
- What are the Roles & Responsibilities w/in IT?
- In the sector of IT in a company, there are a lot of different roles and responsibilities. There is the CIO (Chief Information Officer) that is responsible for presiding over IT and keeping it in line. There is also the PMO (Project Management Office) that helps to manage all kinds of information technology projects. There are also different roles in architecture, development, testing, security, operations, and reporting. Architecture typically deals with the design of the IT structure. Development helps with IT application manufacturing. Testing is responsible for testing that it is functional. Security is responsible for protection and watching for any potential cybersecurity risk. Operations deals with the day to day work. Finally, reporting would deal with any potential issues that occur and would need to be fixed. All these different roles help to make IT a functional component in a complex company system.
- How should IT itself be organized?
- In a perfect IT structure, there should be more organization in order to ensure everything runs smoothly without any hiccups. For that to happen would mean for it to be split depending on the area of IT and have different heads for the different areas. With a CIO presiding over IT and personnel presiding over the different areas, you can ensure that operations could continue running smoothly and that the business would continue thriving as well.
