Interview a Health Professional

The person I interviewed was Evelyn Linsey. Evelyn is a Neuroscience ICU Nurse who works at VCU Health System, better known as MCV. The degrees that she has acquired include RN, a Masters in Nursing, a Bachelors in Health Care Administration, and a Masters in Education. Her certifications include wound care, rehabilitation, and IV therapy. Her inspiration to go into this field was her passion to help people and give them something that they’ve never had, and the fact that she is a people person. Evelyn’s path to her current job was Nursing Assistance, LPN, and then RN. Some basic roles and responsibilities she holds are applying knowledge to critically ill patients, preventing injury and illness, maintaining wellness and comfort, intervening appropriately, and problem-solving. Mrs. Linsey’s favorite aspect of her job is watching her patients leave in a better condition than they arrived in. The most surprising aspect about this job is how underpaid and unvalued they are as nurses. Also, they are always on the clock. The most challenging part of this job is COVID-19. She has seen people dying left and right and it’s hard knowing you can’t save your patient and watching them drown in their secretions. Some advice that she would give to someone going into the healthcare field is not to go into it for the money. Do it for the passion and to always advocate for your patient. Go into a field that you are passionate about! One take away I got from this interview is that this field is not for the weak.
