Writing Reflection 2

The biggest challenge that I have faced while writing essay number three would be connecting the article to my opinion on the topic being discussed. I have never written a five-paragraph essay on the Electoral College before, so having an opinion on the matter required I do further research to understand what exactly needed to be written. I have also found getting three strong arguments that I can write about to be challenging to put into a perfect thesis statement. However, to master that skills is just going to require practice. I personally timed myself in preparation for the final exam to see where I was at in writing a five-paragraph essay in under an hour-forty-five minute. I found myself taking longer than the allotted time, which is just another thing I will have to practice on my own time, perfecting a five-paragraph essay in under two hours. Gathering strong argumentative points that can be backed up with facts that I can argue in my essay could be another area that I need improving on.

I am not perfect with my grammar usage, however, I have learned a lot about grammar throughout the semester; Looking at essay number one compared to essay number two, major improvements of my grammar usage can be seen; furthermore, I learned new ways to connect ideas through the use of conjunctive adverbs and when to use coordinating conjunctions. Also, because of this class, I have learned ways to dissect readings, so reading the article given for the topic was easy to understand and doing further research on the Electoral College did not take me hours and hours; I was able to go over a bunch of research in order to come up with my informed opinion on the Electoral College in an efficient manner, then able to connect all of the readings together is the part that I would need to spend time practicing on. I can gather or go over a bunch of research, but figuring out which point to make and how to write a lot about the topic would be something I would want to improve on. There is always going to be room for improvement in my writing, however, this class serves as a strong fundamental understanding of what is to come in my later English classes, and how to write well argumentative essays.
