Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs suggest that all human’s have needs that exist on a hierarchy. The theory claims as we meet our basic needs at the lower-level, we move to focusing on our upper-level needs. relating this to technology is no different, we all have our basic needs when it comes to technology. Basic physiological requirements to higher-level aspirations, our relationship with technology mirrors this journey in the digital realm.
Physiological needs that our meet with the use of technology would be an refrigerator, as basic and common as they might be they play a crucial role in our daily life’s. they help keep food refrigerated for long term consumption. Another use of of technology that we use to meet our physiological needs our water purification systems, they help provide drinkable water allowing us to use water that normally would hurt a human if consumed. These example of technologies are only very few that we use on a daily basis to meet our physical needs but they play an integral role in our survival as seemingly as they may appear to be.
Safety needs are the second level on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid. Technology plays a significant role in meeting safety needs. Security systems, encrypted communication channels, antivirus software, and cybersecurity measures contribute to individuals feeling secure in their online and digital environments. Additionally, technologies related to emergency services and health monitoring devices can enhance physical safety. Personally experiences I have with physical security systems is our door ring camera, it allows us to see movement at our front door with out being physical their. Not only does it allow monitoring of our home it’s also a deterrent for any trespasser with bad intentions. Online security that I personally use are VPN’s which are “Virtual Private Network”. They allow me to secure my location while browsing online this provides a barrier of protection from online cybercriminals or threat vectors. Meeting our safety needs our important in daily life, prioritizing security is important physically or digitally.
Love and Belongingness is the third level, this level focus on intimate relationships, friends. The way technology relates to this level are social media platforms, messaging apps, and various online communities enable individuals to connect with friends, family, and like-minded individuals. Video conferencing tools and social networking sites help bridge geographical distances, fostering a sense of belonging and connection. I also use social media like many others to connect with people. I use social media to keep up with relatives as well as meet people with in my community.
Esteem needs sits on the fourth level of needs on Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs pyramid. Technology can contribute to fulfilling esteem needs by providing platforms for self-expression, recognition, and achievement. Social media, blogging platforms, and online portfolios allow individuals to showcase their talents and accomplishments. Additionally, educational technology and online courses empower individuals to acquire new skills and enhance their competence. If you’re reading this post I am currently using Esteem needs, my e-portfolio allows me to express me interest, experiences, and achievements. self-expression is important to meet in order to allow you to vent or even just telling someone about achievements. Blogging is also nice way to express your self through videos you can also use it as journal going back after a while to see where you were mentally.
Self-actualization is the highest and final level on the pyramid, this level focus on achieving one’s full potential, including creative activities. Technology can support self-actualization by providing tools and platforms for personal and professional growth. Online learning resources, creative software, and entrepreneurial platforms offer opportunities for individuals to explore their potential, pursue their passions, and achieve self-fulfillment. One way I have personally used technology is through “Hack the box” this allows me to understand and learn the different ways tom improve my cybersecurity skills and pentation skills. This site as helped me reach goals helping me get closer and closer to reaching my full potential of becoming a successful pentation tester. This online learning tool as helped me a lot with experience hands on problem solving and allowing me to self-actualize.
