How does cyber technology impact interactions between offenders and victims?
In my opinion, I definitely believe that the advancement of technology has impact the number of way we can fall victim to cyber crime. The interactions between offenders and victims are usually limited as a person can fall victim to cyber crime and not even realize it until days or even weeks later. I also believe that cyber crime and the advancement of technology has changed how we view victims too. It is much easier to dehumanize those on the internet rather than in reality. Research has even shown that victims of cyber crime of typically more likely to become offenders. Online activity makes it easier for individuals to be free from themselves and act differently than they would in reality. The overlap of victims being more likely to become offenders is most likely due to the fact of shared risk factors. An example of one these risk factors is low self control. An individual who has become victim to cyber crime might go offend as they saw how easy it is and have zero to low self control. This is most common in youth who are just gaining access to the internet world. This is why parents should try to limit or set up safe guards to protect their youth from becoming a victim or offender as cyber crime is incredibly dangerous and serious.
Interactions between offenders and victims are also often limited due to the fact that our government policies do not hold cyber criminals accountable and seek justice, rather they focus on defense techniques addressing cyber crime. Our policies should focus on punishing these cyber criminals as this will deter crime. Deterring cyber crime is important as cyber crimes can cause more harm than any other crime. Cyber crime is also is most common form of crime with offenders globally.
