Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
While reviewing discussion boards, I came across a way that helped me learn the Latino culture. The Hispanic culture greets each other with kisses on the cheek. Another being, being around Hispanic people in my life and learning their values such as religion.
While being younger and being around my friend’s family I learned how much of an actual family they were. They always looked after each other no matter the age or if they were distant. I wasn’t even family and I knew they would provide for me as much as they possibly could. I have personal experience, but with having to do that discussion board you can tell the friendliness of that culture and how they treat people.
Engaging in Communities
I am an introvert, but I do recognize the significance of supporting my community. If you would consider helping manage the Men’s ODU Basketball team then yes I am supportive. I volunteer for that, I also worked my county’s elections and was a coach for one of my county’s youth basketball teams.
At first, the idea of taking time out of my day to help without pay sounds not great. But I love to do it, no matter the pay or volunteering I love giving back to the community when it provides so many things for me!
Interpersonal Communication
While completing this course, I have done a few audio activities and discussion boards. The discussion boards included different topics such as festivals and our university. The audio assignments were more or less listening activities to certain words.
Well, when I first started this course I was very familiar with Spanish. I took Spanish in highschool but that was a decent while ago. So I first was very rusty and my grades weren’t the best. The first audio assignment were a little bit harder since I had to pronounce certain words that I wasn’t used to and learning the alphabet as well as saying them. I overcame that difficulty really by having my partner and relearning everything with her. I would try and study how to pronounce words. I also had trouble understanding certain words but that became better with using a dictionary.

I’ve only completed a few presentational activities this semester and they include my introduction one with my professor. Then the other few with my classmate Ayanna Richardson.
I excelled at remembering certain words to use in certain situations. I studied lines before I even hopped on the camera to make sure that I’m speaking the right words. The most difficult parts were annunciation and you can see that with my first few recordings. I haven’t fully gotten over it but practicing saying words over and over again really can help with that. I would honestly try the same thing next semester if I have trouble saying words.
(Unfortunately, I can’t add the clip of me stuttering to pronounce)
Presentational Writing
While in class, the main assignments that I have done are the Proyectos!
I have grown in the Proyecto’s by learning new words and being able to apply them in my text. When I first begun them I hadn’t done very much writing in Spanish since my Junior & Senior year in highschool. So I would use basic writing skills but as time went on I became better at writing. Simply because every week I would have to learn something new and apply it on Contrensa. I excelled I would say faster than most because I was familiar but really more of the same learning things faster and studying harder.

Interpretive Listening
Also while completing this course, the quizzes seemed to have many listening parts. Whether it come from study for the actual quiz or listening to certain words from the sections.
I find that I really struggled with the some of the Contrensa recordings. When people would talk super fast I’m not really that great at understanding it. Some of the quizzes had them too but I would have to listen to the recording about 5-10 times before I actually understood what was being said. Like I said, I really overcame this by listening to it over and over again. I’m not sure how to really get to the point of understanding it that fast but I would take certain words out of it then try to figure the rest. I’ve became better listening with each activity so in the near future I think I’ll be set.

There wasn’t many interpretive reading sources that I went to throughout the semester. I did read some articles to learn about schools in different latin areas as well as watching YouTube videos about festivals.
Everything was pretty straightforward. I enjoyed learning the new topics that I didn’t know about such as how Mexican people treat social media since that was one of my topics. I also found interesting festivals that I had never heard of such as Sanfermin Pompolona which is celebrated in July. My takeaway was simply enjoying the time people you may not even know and also be daring at the same time with the bull runnings.
