Article Review #1
I chose the article Investigating the Intersection of AI and Cybercrime: Risks, Trends, and Countermeasures. This article explains the growing relationship between AI and cybercrime. The author points out how AI can be both a tool and an issue in the cybercrime world. The article also discusses new countermeasures and the need for policy frameworks to help mitigate these risks.
Relating to Social Science Principles
Social science studies how technology shapes and can be shaped by society. The intersection of AI and cybercrime can be explored through social science principles, specifically those that are related to human behavior, societal impact, and technological ethics. AI’s role in cybercrime has an influence on societies behaviors and structures.
Research Questions and Hypotheses
Reading this article I found a couple of interesting questions that the author had methods to use towards determining the answers to those research questions.
- How is information involving use of AI distributed and used on both the dark web and the clear web, and what are the mechanisms for its transfer between these domains?
- What role does media dissemination play in the spread of AI-facilitated cybercrime?
- How can individual cyber hygiene practices be improved to reduce the risks associated with AI- based threats?
Methodology
In order to address the research questions, the qualitative and quantitative approaches were applied. Every approach provided them with insight to understand the topics. Combining qualitative and quantitative data ensured the understanding of both technical and human factors influencing cybercrime.
Relate to marginalized groups
The topic of AI and cybercrime relates to these groups because a lot of marginalized individuals lack the skills and access to strong cybersecurity tools, which makes them more vulnerable to AI driven fraud and more. The divide leaves these groups of people more vulnerable to cyber threats, as they have limited access to cybersecurity education.
Contribution
The study offers contributions by raising awareness of the rising risks and trends in cybersecurity. The article also informs law enforcement, tech developers, and more on how AI is evolving the cybercrime world. The research helps guide the development of AI driven cybersecurity solutions. Those solutions are responsible for protecting individuals, businesses, and a lot more.
Conclusion
In conclusion, this article highlights the emerging intersection between AI and cybercrime, while pointing out the risks, trends, and countermeasures to mitigate these challenges. By inspecting the vulnerabilities and contributions of marginalized groups. The research informs experts and the public contributing to more effective AI systems and frameworks.
